bionic eyes

I'm now officially car-less, which is a real pain since the only way to get to work from home is a bus that takes almost as long as it would to walk the distance. Either way, it would be time to turn around and go back home by the time I arrived.

The car-less-ness meant a short walk this morning before my lovely and helpful neighbour gave me a lift to the city where I collected a hire car for the second time in less than a week. And my car is only a year old. I thought when you bought a new car that what you were getting for paying so much over the odds was the peace of mind that comes from knowing nothing will go wrong. Hmmm. It went in for it's one-year service 3 weeks ago and has never been the same since. One problem after another, and every one eating into my scarce time.

But I'm enjoying the Honda Jazz I've rented. It's the same one I had from the car rental place a few days ago, and it's beginning to feel like my own personal second car. Annie & Neka ride on the back seat and Keskiyo is loving the views out the back window from his spot in the boot.

On another topic, check this out. According to the BBC, "US and German scientists have designed a bionic eye to allow blind people to see again." How amazing is that? I can sort of get my head around something the size of a mechanical eye recording a moving picture - that's just like a tiny camcorder. But I just cannot comprehend how the mechanics are connected to the human tissue and how the information gets from the machine to the human brain for interpretation and understanding. It truly boggles. Isn't it funny the way technology develops from ideas born in science fiction.

Distance - 3.5 miles
Time - 1.10
Dog(s) - Keskiyo
Weather - sunny
Could I do another 5? - yes
