I've decided to start a gear wishlist as a kind of aide memoire for my plans. I'm keeping it close to hand (i.e. here on my blog - see right) so that I can keep referring to it and add links when I find an example of each item that I like. When I get the item, I put a tick mark next to it, as I've done with the pedometer. Admittedly, it's a pretty poor example of a tick mark, but it will serve its purpose nonetheless.
You can see I've not yet got very far in my collection.
And I haven't even begun to add clothing - what a minefield that is! I've researched the socks issue and now am very pleased with what I have. But the everything-else issue is a very different matter. The books say don't wear denim jeans because they are quick to soak, slow to dry, you can get chilled in them, and they chafe. Well, I've been pretty lucky with the weather thus far as far as rain goes, but I can certainly vouch for the discomfort factor nonetheless. I've done a few of my walks in jeans since I've not been walking very far, and it really isn't to be advised. Having said that, it is better than walking in loose, stretchy trousers like I did today. Chafing. Not good. Ouch.
At this rate I'll be walking in cycling shorts. Er, or maybe not. I think some proper walking trousers will have to be my next investment. I like the look of these. They're made from a terrific quick-drying, lightweight fabric, they've got handy pockets and best of all, they convert into shorts. Just unzip the legs, roll them up and stuff them in your rucksack. Cool. And there are some similar ones that actually convert in two places so you can have shorts or just short trousers, a sort of cropped look. Stylish and practical - nice.
Distance - 5.75 miles
Time - 2 hours
Dog(s) - Keskiyo
Weather - sunny
Could I do another 5? - maybe
